Hola Salser@s and Soulser@s,
The live jamming session from our friends Paul and Goobi (Soulsa) and Dominique Roome (Barrio Latino) is now one of our favorite with our meetups and they are back on the 13th of May in Bar Rumba!
It will be headlined by some of the very best percussionists in London. Expect a piquant combination of drumming virtuosity with the now customary dose of classic Nuyorican and leftfield Salsa. Musicians as well as dancers are more than welcome to join in the fun!
"Nuyorican" means New York Puerto Rican. Nuyorican salsa is considered as the classic form of salsa which emerged in the 70's in New York. It is mind blowing, soulful and stirs the gods because it is the result of the transformation of traditional Cuban music to a new sound by the addition of other rhythms from Spanish Caribbean countries, soul music and jazz.
The jam session will be from 9.30 pm to 11.30 pm at the main stage (after the main entrance, go downstairs, turn left) with 100% hardcore Nuyorican salsa. DJ Chino will play reggaeton, R&B and bashment from 11.30 pm.

Soulsa ® is an amalgamation of the words Soul and Salsa.
Anyone who has a deep passion for music feels it from the soul... hence their slogan: Salsa from the soul! (Salsa del alma! in Spanish).
The Soulsa ® project came into being when two individuals from completely different cultural backgrounds discovered a shared liking for Salsa Dura, which first surfaced in swinging sixties New York and peaked in popularity during the seventies. Salsa Dura (Hard or classic Salsa in English) was essentially the marriage of genres and rhythms drawn from Cuba, Puerto Rico and some of the other islands in the Caribbean with the high-tempo, drive and improvisational techniques picked up by Latino immigrants in New York.
Barrio Latino is one of the West End's most vibrant club nights. It is the brainchild of female Latin music promoter Dominique Roome. Barrio Latino started out as Bar Rumba's flagship night, and 15 years later has become a musical institution.
