Hello Portland Salser@s!

This is a great opportunity to learn from one of NYC's most skilled dancers!

Latin Dance Workshops with Manny Blackett of NYC's Abakua Latin Dance Company
Taught by: Emmanuel Blackett
Portland, OR

Manny Blackett has been one of the main stars of Frankie Martinez's Abakua Dance Company in New York City for several years. We are delighted to have him teach workshops here in Portland! Reserve your spot now! for more details, email me at: [masked]

Class Schedule:

1 - 2:30 --> Cha Cha level 1/2

The cha-cha is a very diverse dance where you can add an element of elegance to it, while at the same time adding some funk. Manny's cha-cha has both. The students are in for a real treat, as Manny not only teaches how to dance the cha-cha, but how to feel the essence of the cha-cha by hearing and dancing to the conga drum. All are invited. Class will be taught at cha-cha level 1/2.

2:45 - 4:15 --> Afro-Carribean Movement (open)

Afro-Caribbean movement is a very unique term coined by Abakua. The movements stem from the african roots and build discipline in the body. Your awareness of body control will be enhanced by taking this workshop. This class is an open level class. All are invited.

Cost for the workshop:

Pre-registration price: $30 for the day (both classes). You can pre-register by emailing [masked], or by simply RSVP here on the Meetup site!

Drop-in price: $20 per class.

Location will be Ankeny Street Studios. (SE 9th & Ankeny).

Price for private instruction is $85/hr and includes studio fees. Privates will be based on availability and done after the workshops.

    •  What an incredible opportunity! I had a blast. Thank you for organizing, Ricardo.

       It was a crowded floor and hard to see Manny, but what I saw was very interesting. It was apparent that the level of expertise of most students was WAY beyond my friend and my ability. So we decided to leave within minutes. Ricardo (or whoever was in charge) gave us our money back and welcomed us to come back again. Couldn't have asked for a more accomodating host. I look forward to more lessons at my level.
